Beware of fictitious billing schemes using GMO names
Recently, we have received inquiries from users who have received emails requesting payment to their mobile phones from companies using the same or similar name as GMO Internet, Inc. These unscrupulous companies have no connection whatsoever with GMO Internet, Inc., our company, or the GMO Internet Group, so please be careful not to contact them or pay them any money, even if you receive such a request.
If you receive a suspicious email, please contact the GMO Internet Group Customer Service Center (https://secure.gmo.jp/contact/) and also inform your local police.
Below is the text of the fraudulent invoice email provided to us by a customer.
Recently, the Authorized Network Certification Provider Center has intervened to authenticate the electronic name of the caller's device from the mobile device currently in use by you, and because you did not cancel your membership with the "General Information Site" to which you previously registered during the free period, a registration fee has been incurred and has remained unpaid for a long period of time. However, if this fee continues to be left unpaid after this notice, in accordance with the terms of use, after obtaining your resident registration and agreeing to a background check, a collection agency will later bill your home, workplace, and a third party for the full amount, including investigation and collection costs.
If you wish to proceed with the transaction for the amount currently pending investigation, please complete the settlement and cancellation processing data deletion procedure as soon as possible.
